The Alliance of Students Against Poverty seeks to inspire, educate and prepare young people to become the future leaders of civil society, government and the private sector –  ensuring they put extreme poverty where it belongs—in our history books. To accomplish this, it is important that ASAP members develop leadership and management skills now.

Accordingly, ASAP encourages students to fulfill leadership positions wherever they find them—within or outside of ASAP.  In addition, to help cultivate effective leaders of the future, ASAP provides important opportunities for its members to work together and collaborate with others from different cultures, countries, backgrounds and academic pursuits.

Because ASAP is a student organization, it is important that there are numerous opportunities for students to be involved in creating and shaping the work of the organization.  ASAP seeks the input and involvement of its student members through the following:

  • Student Representation on ASAP’s Board
  • Student Advisory Committees
  • Domestic Internships
  • ASAP Chapter/Club Leadership
  • ASAP Partner Ambassadors

Student Representation on ASAP’s Board:  ASAP’s domestic internship program is offered to all ASAP University members.  Interns will work virtually and on a part-time basis, while still in

Student Advisory Committees:  Alliance of Students Against Poverty (ASAP) wants to hear your voice.  To ensure each one of our members has the opportunity to contribute to the success of ASAP, we have created Student Advisory Committees, which help develop our technology, keep us better connected, expand our outreach and make certain we are in the news and that your work is noticed.  These committees also collect, process and aggregate shared ideas and concerns from all ASAP members to make sure your voice is heard.

Each Advisory Committee consists of four university students and two high school students and is chaired by one of the six members.  Committee members actively solicit ideas and opinions from ASAP members, and present the findings and recommendations to ASAP central.  In turn, ASAP central works with Advisory Committees to implement recommendations in alignment with ASAP’s mission and strategic plan.

We are presently seeking our founding ASAP Student Advisory Committees and are filling all committee positions.  If you are ready to get involved, please fill out the following application

    • Technology: Ensure ASAP’s website and other technology resources are up to speed with students’ needs.
    • Marketing: Help develop ASAP’s brand.  Keep ASAP in the news and highlight student successes.
    • Education: Assist in the development of learning materials and resources to educate ASAP’s members.
    • Outreach: Create strategies to reach more students worldwide.
    • Fundraising: Create and test fundraising activities that can be replicated by ASAP members.
    • Annual Conference: Plan, organize and lead ASAP’s annual conference each fall.

Domestic Internships:  ASAP’s domestic internship program is offered to all ASAP University members.  Interns will work virtually and on a part-time basis throughout the academic year.  The internship program helps accomplish the following objectives:

    • Ensures the students’ voices are influencing ASAP’s policies and strategies.
    • Provides students with meaningful work experience and the opportunity to develop project management and leadership skills.
    • Keeps ASAP’s administrative budget low, thus ensuring more of your money is going to those that need it the most.

ASAP is now receiving applications for the following internship positions:

    • PR & Communications Manager
    • Membership Manager
    • Chapters/Clubs Manager
    • Education and Training Manager
    • Fundraising Manager
    • I/T Manager

ASAP Chapter/Club Leadership:  ASAP Chapters/Clubs are unincorporated, student-run, student-led organizations on university, college and high school campuses that affiliate with ASAP Central.  Chapter/Club leadership provides students with a unique opportunity to not only advance ASAP’s mission to eradicate extreme poverty, but also to develop important leadership and management skills that will help them in future positions.  Each chapter/club must have, at a minimum, a President and a Treasurer; these positions cannot be filled by the same person.  In addition, we recommend that you fill the following positions when you have sufficient  membership:

    1. Secretary
    2. Vice President-Student Mobilization
    3. Vice President-Awareness Building
    4. Vice President-Fundraising

The duties of each officer are listed below:

    Vice President-Awareness Building:

    Vice President-Fundraising:

    • Plans and leads fundraising events involving campus and outside community

ASAP Partner Ambassadors:  Eradicating extreme poverty requires a collaborative effort from all members of society, including civil society, government, academia, the private sector and the rest of the world’s citizens. ASAP seeks allies from among all of these sectors to help it fulfill its mission and eliminate extreme poverty. In particular, ASAP is in search of civil society partners that are actively engaged in a programmatic way in the fight against extreme poverty.  ASAP asks its partners to support an ambassador program, where students will serve as their representatives on campuses, in churches and in the community. The ambassador program will consist of the following:

    • One or two students from ASAP High School Clubs and University Chapters will be selected as ambassadors to each of ASAP’s partners.  They will work with the partner to create an annual action plan of awareness building and fundraising activities that the ambassadors will carry out on their campuses and in their local communities.
    • Through conversation with and training by ASAP partner organizations, Ambassadors will gain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the organization they represent and will become  powerful voices and advocates for their partners within the ASAP clubs or chapters, their campuses, churches and communities.
    • ASAP hopes that ambassadors will have the opportunity to intern with ASAP partners in the field, thus providing them with on the ground experience and understanding of their partners’ work. This will not only give them an in-depth perspective of the day to day operations of the organizations, but also a very powerful emotional connection to the people the organizations serve (and potentially the organization itself) that cannot come from mere reading alone.  In addition, they will have their own stories, photos and videos to more powerfully share the message of their partnering organizations.
